On Sunday 28th June, The Holbrook Club will play host to a Zumbathon organised by mother and daughter duo Lesley and Robyn Kemp; Horsham residents and proud fundraisers! It’s all in aid of Make-A-Wish® UK; the charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.

Both Robyn and Lesley have been members of The Holbrook Club for a long time and have lived in Horsham for many years; they’ve been attending the weekly Zumba classes at the club for almost three years now. It was their love of the workout and their desire to raise money for a great cause that inspired this latest fundraising venture.

“We chose Make-A-Wish as it is such a special organisation and the stories of children’s wishes coming true is heartwarming; it’s such an amazing, magical charity,” said Robyn when we spoke with her recently.

The Zumbathon is not the only fundraising Robyn, who’s currently studying Maths at the University of Birmingham, will be undertaking. In August, she will be taking on the Inca Trail in Peru and trekking for 6 days to raise even more money for this wonderful cause.

“We will be trekking at altitudes of up to 5000m above sea level and in varied conditions” Robyn said. “It will be an experience of a life-time and I have to raise a total of £2990 for Make-A-Wish so I really hope the Zumbathon can help me to my target!”

We spoke with Katy Cosgrove, Events Fundraiser at Make-A-Wish, about what Robyn and Lesley’s fundraising means for the charity:

“A wish can be anything from being a princess for the day, to meeting a hero or going on a once-in-a-lifetime family holiday. Whatever the child’s wish, it gives them and their family an escape from the reality of living with a life-threatening condition – creating memories to treasure forever, whatever the future may hold.

The money raised on the Zumbathon will help us to continue to grant these magical wishes. This year Make-A-Wish wants to grant 1000 wishes; anybody who fundraises for Make-A-Wish helps to make a difference to the lives of seriously ill children and their families.”

If you fancy heading to The Holbrook Club and shaking your thing for charity, it’s simple; just turn up at the club before 11am, donate to take part and get dancing! There will also be a bake sale and a raffle so even if Zumba isn’t your thing, there will be plenty of ways to show support to Robyn, Lesley and Make-A-Wish.

You can donate to Robyn’s Just Giving page here.

We wish you ladies the best of luck!
